Wine Tasting
I started to "taste" wine, red wine, since last year; I come here for graduate studies. In the beginning, I did not pay much attention on it. I would not seek chances actively to taste wine, whether beer, red wine, or other aquavitae.

I have Wall Street Journal subscription, and it has a "tasting" column by Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher every Friday. I started to notice the "art" of wine tasting through the column, and started to learned a little of wine. From then on, I read some articles on the Internet, visiting some winery in Napa Valley. I started to learn more.

The feeling of wine tasting differs from one to one. I just want to write some simple introduction to red wine, and record the wine I have tasted. I am totally not an expert of it, just beginner.

Also, I think wine is good friend for almost everything. After studying too long, meeting with important friends, or, heartbreaking.

There is a great book for wine tasting. The Wall Street Journal Guide to Wine: New and Improved: How to Buy, Drink and Enjoy Wine.

Grape Species:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon
It can be seen as the king of red wine, although some people would think it's difficult to drink. It is because the wine made from Cabernet usually comes with some special acerbity, which comes from tannin. thus, good Cabernet always takes longer time to mature, at least 2 or 3 years.
Cabernet is widely accepted as the most complex of all red wines, displaying aromas of cassis and black cherry, and with different flavors, such as plum, vanilla, cedar or smoky, with different locations.
  • Malbec
  • Merlot
  • Pinot Noir
  • Syrah
  • Zinfandel

Wine I Tasted
